Understanding Your Rights

At John Burns Counseling, we prioritize your mental health and well-being. In compliance with Sec. 181.105 of the Texas Health and Safety Code, we ensure that all clients are informed of their rights regarding mental health services. This includes your right to confidentiality, informed consent, and the ability to access your records. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all individuals, couples, and children seeking help.

  • What are my rights as a client?

    As a client, you have the right to receive clear information about your treatment, including the risks and benefits. You also have the right to refuse treatment and to be informed about the consequences of such decisions.

  • Can I access my records?

    Yes, you have the right to access your mental health records. If you wish to review your records, please submit a written request via email, please include full name, date of birth, and description of the records you want. Records will be provided in accordance with Texas and federal law.

  • What if I have a complaint?

    If you have any concerns or complaints about your treatment, we encourage you to discuss them with your counselor. You also have the right to file a complaint with the appropriate regulatory body.
